top of the mornin' to ya

This is the little sight I wake up to almost every morning.

Finn and Calvin hiding in the corner behind the yellow chair, playing with legos.

They are in seclusion so that Ollie does not find them and choke on all the legos. Which is funny, since they are up around 8 and Ollie doesn't rise and shine til 9:30. I guess you can never be too careful with these risky legos.

lovin' Calvin's bedhead and inside out shirt...

My Dresser

I was chopping onions last night and a little piece fell on the kitchen floor.

Sigh.

I tried to bend over to pick it up...but halfway down decided it was not worth the effort. I told John "I can barely bend over anymore".

To which he replied, "And just think, in one week, you won't be able to bend over at all."

He's right. Just a heads up to you all, I am pretty much an invalid after a c-section. I can barely move for the first month. There is no bending. And the next few months I'm pretty rickety as well. Some people are lucky and heal very fast. Not me.

Anyhow, all of this triggered a series of complex reactions in my brain, which ended in this urgent conclusion:

MUST PAINT BEDROOM DRESSER ASAP.

Never mind the fact that it's been parked unnoticed in my closet for the past 5 years...

That is, until I drop a tiny piece of onion on the floor. And now the realization that I won't be able to bend for months on end makes the this project TOP PRIORITY on my list of things to do.

I said I was burnt out on decorating. I guess I am the lying liar that lies.

And because it is highly unrealistic that I can sand, prime and paint the entire dresser by myself, here is my short-cut plan.

I am just going to paint the outside of the drawers a fun color. Probably aqua.

And replace the knobs. I am missing quite a few of them. I will still want the knobs to be orange.

I am going to leave the body of the dresser alone. It's a totally different wood grain than the drawers and is actually not too hideous.

The dresser has a cute round shape and I think this may work. Kind of a two-tone deal.

If not, you have all learned a valuable lesson, at my expense.
(You're welcome).

And worst case scenario, it will just have to go back in hiding in the closet til I am 100 years old.

  2. If it makes you feel any better, I do not heal well either so I am basically an invalid after c-sections as well. I healed wonderfully after my second (non-c-section) birth, but I healed *so* wonderfully that I totally overdid it and got both mastitis and a super-bad UTI at the same time, and was laid out with high fevers. So I can't win either way. LOL.

Anyway, I had c-sections with both girls (which is really sad, after having regular deliveries with both boys, the second of which was 3 pounds bigger than both girls...placenta previa ruined my best-laid delivery plans for the girls) I always start out healing well in the hospital, and then I return home and try to do something normal, like laundry, and then I hurt something or pop stitches, and then the swelling starts, and then I get terrible lectures from the doctor, and then I start bleeding very badly (lost lots of blood one night after having Elise), and then I'm in bad shape for about three months. My body doesn't do well after surgery, and in addition to that, I am not very smart. ;-P

You're too cute about the dresser. It will look beautiful, whenever you do it, and then you can have a peaceful convalescence from your c-section (hahahaha - as peaceful as it can be when you have four children!).

  4. I can't wait to see it... BUT... I can't believe you are tackling that big of a project a WEEK before your delivery! Impressive, big time!

I keep thinking about you... and how you're only a week away, and I'm so jealous. Even though I guess I could go into labor anytime... I have a feeling I'm going to be either really close to my due date, or possibly late. Things doing seem to be moving along here. Little to no braxton hicks... and I don't feel like he's dropping. :-(

  6. Did you sneak in there to take pics of them without them seeing you?! It appears that way! How sweet that they know that Ollie could choke so they hide from him...such sweet big brothers! :)
